ISO 42001, developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) in partnership with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), was released in early 2024. It provides a comprehensive framework for organisations to manage Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems responsibly, ethically, and effectively. Certification to the standard demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to transparent and accountable AI governance.

Brookcourt currently employs AI technologies to enhance the efficiency and performance of its Sales and Marketing operations. Achieving ISO 42001 certification reflects the organisation’s dedication to best practice in AI governance and further supports its position as a leader in secure, transparent, and ethical AI deployment.

Methodology and Approach

The certification programme was led by Xcina Consulting, Shearwater’s governance, risk and compliance advisory arm. Xcina’s team of certified experts support clients in navigating complex regulatory landscapes and achieving compliance with leading governance and cyber maturity frameworks, including ISO 42001.

The Xcina team developed a comprehensive implementation plan based on the requirements of the ISO 42001 standard and assisted in the production of the required artefacts, including policies, procedures, forms and logs.  Xcina also assisted in the design and implementation of the required supporting processes and delivered training to relevant stakeholders.  The Xcina team supported Brookcourt throughout the external certification audit.
